In 1906, the Chamber Of Commerce decided to showcase the city’s manufacturing and innovation prowess, with an all-encompassing slogan to represent the integrity, heritage, and strength of Rochesters industry. The result: ROCHESTER MADE MEANS QUALITY.
In the desire to advertise this slogan far and wide, the Chamber chose a familiar yet vital part of our landscape, High Falls, as a visual. The Genesee River and our three water falls are the reason we exist, and continue to endure as a community.
At the time of campaign launch, Rochester was not only host to a global heritage in flour and flora production, but also a growing powerhouse in brewing, distilling, tailoring, shoemaking, food science, photography, optics, specialized manufacturing, printing, and research and development. We were quickly demonstrating this new moniker in more ways than the Chamber could have imagined.
