Squirrel Hill
The largest neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill is actually a number of hills, and technically two neighborhoods. So named for the favoured hunting grounds of Native Americans for squirrels, it is a sprawling residential neighborhood with one of the largest green spaces in the city.
That green space, is Schenley Park. A sprawling public park donated by Mary Schenley, the park provides a number of amenities to city residents for relaxation and respite.
Within Schenley Park, lies a floral jewel for Pittsburgh and the region: Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Originally a gift of Henry Phipps, the pavilion and grounds has grown to educate and entertain guests with various flora from around the world.
