Squirrel Hill

$29.00

The largest neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill is actually a number of hills, and technically two neighborhoods. So named for the favoured hunting grounds of Native Americans for squirrels, it is a sprawling residential neighborhood with one of the largest green spaces in the city.

That green space, is Schenley Park. A sprawling public park donated by Mary Schenley, the park provides a number of amenities to city residents for relaxation and respite.

Within Schenley Park, lies a floral jewel for Pittsburgh and the region: Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Originally a gift of Henry Phipps, the pavilion and grounds has grown to educate and entertain guests with various flora from around the world. The featured graphic of the Squirrel Hill shirt commemorates this natural wonder, along with the shirt itself for Schenley Park, and grey for the fur of the neighborhood’s namesake.

Pittsburgh Railways operated trolley cars throughout the city, connecting neighborhoods with convenient public transit: the 69 line, Larimer Via Ellsworth, would have been the prominent trolley line for the Squirrel Hill neighborhood.
