Most of the corporate offices and manufacturing facilities made their home on Humboldt Street, with a connecting street eventually bearing the name of the company. Stromberg Carlson would dominate the telecom sector, being one of five companies that controlled the supply of telephones across the country (until after World War 2), being the first company to provide telephone switches to Walt Disney World, developed broadcast radio and television stations WHAM and WROC, and innovated in telecom technology until their eventual acquirement and dismantling in the 1980s and early 2000s. The company left Rochester during this time, and the current facilities are a mix of commercial and retail spaces, including Radio Social and the home of WROC Channel 8 news. A lesser known yet equally unique part of the areas history lies with an academic powerhouse and an early chapter in its development to its current home on the River campus. Before settling along the Genesee River, the University of Rochesters third home was at the present day Memorial Art Gallery. Its first sprawling campus, the area wasn’t large enough, and in 1914, the UofR purchased 22 acres at Culver Road and Main Street, calling it Cutler Field. The area provided two baseball diamonds, a running track, a football/soccer field, and grandstand. Cutler Field served as the athletic outlet for students until 1953 when it was purchased by the city for East High School. The golden yellow of the design represents this unlikely connection between the neighborhood and the regions largest employer.
Rochester's long stretching network of trolley routes serviced the far reaches of the city; The 1300 line of the Glen Haven Line started on East Main Street and traveled through Culver Winton Main north to the quaint resort of Glen Haven, on Irondequoit Bay.
