A beacon of prosperity and optimism, Mercury glides high with pouch and staff watching over the hustle and bustle of day to day commerce in downtown Rochester. A unique and treasured staple of Rochester's skyline, Mercury was originally installed above the Kimball Tobacco Company, which stood at the present day site of the War Memorial. Today Mercury stands triumphant atop the Lawyers Cooperative Extension building continuing his tradition as an integral part of Rochester's history.

The colors of the shirt also signify the unique character of this neighborhood: asphalt grey for the many busy streets and parking lots servicing the busy hub of downtown Rochester, and sky blue for the windows of all the towering businesses and high rise buildings that grace the city skyline. Rochester may not have the biggest skyscrapers, but once and future powerhouses of industry like Bausch & Lomb, Cunningham, Eastman-Kodak, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, Genesee Brewery, Hickey-Freeman, and Xerox all called downtown home to their corporate headquarters.

The Rochester subway system traveled west to east servicing as much of the city neighborhoods as possible: Residents and visitors of Center City would primarily jump on and off the Court Street station for access.
